Graham Mackie Invitation

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPIRATION

For many years the Clarence River has been an inspiration for visual artist Graham Mackie, a local professional artist of more than twenty years. Graham's love of the landscape where the Mann River meets the Clarence has been an integral part of recent artistic creations.

After his successful exhibition in 2006, titled from the beach to the bush and back, Graham has focused his creative energy during the past year towards this new exhibition, River 2 Sea. Graham's photographs, drawings and paintings celebrate the passage of the mighty Clarence from its source down to the Pacific Ocean .

The exhibition is taking place at a time when the magnificent landscape which informs Graham's work is under threat. For those who are not acquainted with the river landscape, many of Graham's works will provide a visual insight into the beauty of the area.

The painting entitled “Convergence” depicts an aerial view of the meeting point of Coombadjah Creek with the Mann River and its course into the Clarence River . This small painting captures the essence of the landscape, not only in its geographic reality but through the aesthetic experience communicated by the artist.

Graham's beachscapes represent the culmination of the river's journey. He has held to the truth of the landscape by providing works that portray not only the natural environment but also aspects of human influence.

His artistic ability is evident in his technique and choice of subject matter. Graham's delicate hand and discerning eye bear witness to a highly talented visual artist.

This exhibition is not to be missed.

River 2 Sea opens on Friday June 29 at 6pm. All are welcome to attend the opening. If you are unable to do so, come and view the works between 9am and 5pm weekdays, Saturday 10am to 2pm or by appointment on Sunday. Just phone: 02 6646 1999.
